The reason I began living naturally: I didn’t have a choice.

We all say we are going to do it- you know- for your kids or husbands or dogs… but honestly some of us get a bigger push than we are ready for to make switch to all-natural. Some of us come to a point we just don’t have a choice.

The thing that really opened my eyes to the fact that synthetic items used in our daily routines can hurt us was when I had my twin boys a month and a half early. Everything we used on them broke them out in a rash- I mean everything. The baby laundry detergent would leave red bumps on any part of their bodies that came in contact with the fabric after long periods of time. The lotion I would rub on them after their bath would leave red patches in the creases and one of the boys developed severe eczema after a few weeks of baths with a baby shampoo. Even certain brand diapers would leave us battling what I thought was constant diaper rash. I was desperate! The more baby products I would put on them to “help” the skin issues the worse their skin got. I finally went to the doctor.

As suggested by our pediatrician, I gave them baths with no soap, washed their clothes with either water only or soap nuts instead of laundry detergent, and wasn’t able to use any lotion at all on those little guys. One of the boys who had developed eczema turned out to flare up when exposed to sodium laurel sulphate, which is in everything that bubbles such as: laundry detergent, shampoo, body wash, face wash, hand soap, dish soap, even things like car wash and pet flea and tick shampoo. It was crazy how sensitive skin brings out the side effects of synthetic chemical exposure that people with non-sensitive skin don’t see… so the non-sensitives just don’t believe that store bought stuff is bad.

So we went a couple years being extra careful with fragrance and such in any baby care items like diapers, wipes, soaps, and lotions. Everything seemed to be going alright until they were toddlers and became mobile. Then a whole other set of issues came into play.

I will never forget the day that I poured the milk out of my son's sippy cup, rinsed it with water, and a giant mountain of bubbles formed! My son had been drinking out of a soap covered sippy cup. Our dishwasher must have stopped mid-cycle and I unknowingly unloaded the soap covered dishes. I thought, "was dish detergent harmful to a baby" and "what exactly is in the dishwashing detergent?" To my surprise, the ingredients were not listed on the box. Check under your sink and in your laundry room. Chances are you won't find an ingredients list on the bottles. Scary right?!

Later that week, I laid the twins down for their nap. When I checked on them, I found them out of their cribs and covered in a greasy paste. They learned to climb out of their beds and got into my diaper supply basket on top of the changing table which contained baby essentials such as diaper rash cream, baby powder, lotion, baby vapor rub, etc. They had made a concoction and had it in their mouth, ears, eyes- everywhere! I found myself, again, going through the same questions I had before with the addition of, "exactly how many different chemicals did they ingest this time from the vapor rub and diaper rash medicine??".

That was the day my life changed. I felt helpless. How could I keep my children safe if I kept things in my home that had the ability to hurt them? How do I treat diaper rash with out the cream? How do I treat the skin scrapes with out ointment? If they accidentally ingest these things it can potentially hurt them.

This is the day I began my journey. I set out to find alternative products that could be made at home from a mixture natural oils / butters and essential oils rather than synthetics so that if another one of these accidents happened I don't have to worry about my children's well being. Each day we got rid of a harmful product and replaced it with something safe. I tried and tested soooo many different blends and recipes and it took years and years for me to get every one just right.

Word got around to my friends and family and before I knew it I was getting messages from people at my work, my kid’s teacher, and my neighbors asking about what they should use for this problem or how to make a certain thing such as natural bug spray. I went a long time whipping up a batch of this and a batch of that for those people when one day a friend asked me why I wasn’t selling my stuff online. I couldn’t give her a good answer as to why I wasn’t. So I entertained the thought for a few weeks, played around with names, then one thing led to another and here we are so many years later as a legitimate LLC that I never dreamed that I would ever create before my boys were born.

The peace of mind you get when the dangers in your home are eliminated just can’t be explained in words. My daughter and I were making ourselves a jar of sugar scrub the other day and I turned around to find her licking the spoon. I asked her what she was doing and she replied that she forgot we were making "soap" and thought it was brownies. I just laughed when she said it didn't taste as good as it looked. There was nothing in the scrub that would hurt her. Nothing that she couldn't eat! It was so nice not to have to go into panic mode any more. I will spray the mirrors in the bathroom and not worry about if the spray gets on the toothbrushes and have no issue what so ever spraying the kids down with bug spray right beside the table with all the food. Why? Because you can literally squirt the bug spray into your mouth and it be perfectly alright.

When I create a product, before I stock it on my shelves I ask myself, “if my boys were babies again and accidentally got into it, could they eat some of it it and nothing in it harm them? Can their bodies soak this product in through the skin and their kidneys not suffer from it? Would I put this product in my own mouth (not that any of the products would taste good) and be confident that it was totally safe?” If all of the above answers yes then it goes on my shelf. If I am hesitant even for a single second it does not.

So after years of trial and error to master the craft of creating all-natural, non-toxic products that actually work, I am excited to say that they are available to anyone. In addition to the all natural body care products, salves, and cleaning supplies we also offer a wide variety of natural or reclaimed home decor products at our vendor markets we attend throughout the year. We truly are dedicated to serving the needs of our family and our customers each and every day and only sell products that we would use for our own family.
